Yep, this is how I usually build curved stuff - use primitives to get the
correct points, inline them and move the points around as necessary.

In this particular case (a full circular ring), a way to avoid the manual
point-swapping would be to mirror one of the rings.  One slight
drawback--the command-lines wouldn't be in opposite sequences.

Going off on a slight tangent...

Also, remember there are a fair number of ring and conic primitives in the
ldraw\p\ directory.  These are all created with outer radius = inner radius
+ 1, but you can often resize and combine multiple files to build objects
with greater differences between the radii.  If you need a ring with less
difference, you might be able to downsize a primitive.

One of the tables in the rotate.xls spreadsheet helps figure out which
primitives would be the best choice to combine for building wider rings.
See <http://www.geocities.com/partsref/>, and follow the link to rotate.xls.

If someone needs a new ring- or cone-type primitive, feel free to ask.

Steve

I just threw this together, and while doing it I came up with a quite easy way to create discs with holes, and cones. Consider two edge.dat's same orientation, same position but with different diameters. If one where to fill out the space between (...)
