Hi lego fans,

I have finished the package and documentation for Peeroml, a scripting tool
and programming framework for lego inventories.

Damien,

Please change the name of your program. Peeron is a trademark of Dan and
Jennifer Boger. Your program is not associated with the Peeron site. The name
you chose above has obvious similarities to the Peeron trademark, and may cause
confusion for some users.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Clark

Hi Clark Stephens,

Thanks for your comments.
You have well anticipated what has happened to me yesterday.

At first i thought cooperation means:

* function and datas should not be separated but available at a unique
repository site (Peeron.com of course, there is no question about that), some
site having all the datas, some other smaller one having only the more advanced
functions would be either community splitting or wasting my work in the
cyberspace
* the name Peeroml was meant as an homage and an invitation to fusion (not
confusion), at the single benefit of the Peeron(tm) site, not as a trademark
parody or database appropriation
* i am willing to abandon any right or copyright if it is necessary so that the
whole Peeron.com site is under a unique copyright
* of course, whatever the work involved in the convertion to a specification
format, i acknowledge Peeron(tm) is a trademark of Dan and Jennifer Boger, no
matter how much fruitful the new format is, i will never distribute a derivative
work

Dan Boger has e-mailed me.
Cooperation does not mean what i expected it to mean.

I am not native english speaking, but as i understand:

* he doesn't see what functionality is offered that is not already available at
Peeron.com
* he can't provide support and answer questions about Peeroml. well, i expected
that and i think a simple sentence "don't e-mail about that stuff, please post
to ... " would redirect the charge
* he won't create a "Peeroml" page at Peeron.com
* that basically splits Peeron.com and Peeroml, making them competitive rather
than cooperative
* he asks me to remove the database from the program
* of course the Peeroml name is thus totally inappropriate, he also asks me to
rename the tool

Now i am in an awkward position where i have to prove that Peeroml is more than
merely database pillage.
That's very difficult because:
1. i can't distribute the complete tool because the database is copyrighted
2. i can distribute the tool if the database is removed, but then how can i demo
the new database functions ?
3. i am not even sure if i can send a private complete package to a few selected
people, and i won't do it again if i am not allowed by Dan Boger

Peeroml is LDraw compatible.
That's a great feature, that means all i have to do to restore the amputed
functionality is to model all official lego(tm) models. Wait a minute: i also
need Peerom.con to do that :(

I never wanted to compete with Peeron.com, so right now the more probable
outcome is Peeroml will forever live on my hard disk.

Or will someone offer me another chance?

Regards,

- damien
