  Re: library license

(...) Because it is a bad idea. It requires that the parts authors put an enormous trust in those they sign over copyright to. (...) I have refused to do that for the GNU project and I will do the same for LDraw.org (but I don't think I have written (...) (20 years ago, 24-May-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)

If this is a feature that is used deliberately and often enough to motivate a software model for it, it would be possible to encode a combination of hard constraints, demonstrating the normal and preferred connection method, and additional (...)   Re: LCD draft spec comment

(...) Hi I am currently working on my own version of LCD. (URL) was thinking of adding some kind over-ride to the angle of movement for each connection. This clinches it, I will. The format itself could hold single-studs that lock at 90 degrees or (...) (20 years ago, 22-May-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.lcd)

Re: Mac Brick CAD and the Imerial Star Destroyer

(...) Actually, the same thing can happen in Windows if you resize a window too big (say 1600x1200) on an older video card. However, I'm not sure you can tell that it has switched to software mode on Windows, because as far as I know it is still (...) (20 years ago, 21-May-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac)

Re: Mac Brick CAD and the Imerial Star Destroyer

(...) Yeah, watch out for that software rendering on the Mac. It sneeks up on you. I know it can switch you over while your program is running, but I don't know what causes it to happen other than resizing a window. You might want to query it about (...)   Re: Mac Brick CAD and the Imerial Star Destroyer

(...) Just as a note, I found that Vertex Buffer Objects (VBOs) would crash my ATI card in Windows when used inside a display list. As far as I can tell, this isn't supposed to happen. Regular vertex arrays work fine inside a display list. General (...) (20 years ago, 21-May-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac)

  LCD draft spec comment

Nothing much seems to be happening with the LCD spec, but I read it through and have a comment, in case anyone is listening. If not, at least this lands in the archives. The "stud inlet" and the "turnable stud inlet" should not be distinguished in (...) (20 years ago, 20-May-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.lcd)

  Licenses... some background

Longtime fans of the LDraw format and the LDraw system of tools know that this current discussion around licensing is by far NOT the first time the topic came up. The discussion is currently sort of disjointed in my personal view (and that of (...) (20 years ago, 20-May-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw) !

  Re: library license

(...) The only problem with that is getting permission from authors that have *already contributed*. Many are no longer contactable, and of those that are, there may be some that don't want their work owned by Ldraw.org. You'd effectively need to (...)   Re: library license

(...) While this is true of the library as a whole, it isn't true of individual files. Even when an author gets a part officially into the library, I believe they are still the owner, and they're certainly the author. --Travis (20 years ago, 19-May-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)
