  Re: "Clusters" of Studs?

Steve, I say, "Go for it." ;) Franklin (20 years ago, 25-Oct-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  Re: "Clusters" of Studs?

(...) Wow! Has it really been 2 years since we had this discussion? Either that, or I missed something in my newsgroup searching... Since I'm not seeing any stug*.dat files in the parts library, I'd like to revive this topic. I'd also like to (...) (20 years ago, 25-Oct-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  Re: high res bushlocks?  [DAT]

(...) You're probably right. I just remembered that the bushlocks are divided into 32 segments which is fairly colse to 48. Though the notches in bushloc3 would probably align better with the studs if they used the high res primitves at least in (...) (20 years ago, 6-Jun-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  Re: high res bushlocks?

(...) I think they are fine the way they are. The basic reason is size. The bushlocks are 20 LDU in diameter. 48-segment primitives are not needed until you get to 80 LDU diameter curves. If you need to put 48-segment primitives with a bushlock, (...) (20 years ago, 5-Jun-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  high res bushlocks?

I think that the bushlock primitves should be updated to align with the 48 segment primitves. What do others think? (20 years ago, 28-May-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

Useful Shortcut: a04q.dat - Cylinder Angle Tube 90 degrees  [DAT]

"How on earth do I rotate those cyls's...?", I've asked myself many times. Here's a useful shortcut that continues a thought cylinder in the y direction and turns 90 degrees to the left. To be inlined or even official primitive if you all like it as (...) (20 years ago, 16-May-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  Re: Link to reference, please!

(...) Done. Any other primitives references that should be linked in? Hmm. Paul Easter's primitive generator, at least. What else? Steve (20 years ago, 11-May-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  Re: Link to reference, please!

(...) It took several minutes to find it. This is the link I mean: (URL) (20 years ago, 7-May-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  Link to reference, please!

I think it would be a great idea to put a link to the primitives reference that is somewhere on lugnet or ldraw.org at the web interface page of this group. ( (URL) ) (20 years ago, 7-May-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  Re: More cylinder primitives wanted

(...) But you could inline the constituents and make them primitives. ROSCO (21 years ago, 10-Dec-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  Re: More cylinder primitives wanted

(...) Sounds good, I could have used this part several times. Another series "primitive" part I use is x-xhole.dat and x-xhola.dat. They get inlined before the part gets released. The x-xhole.dat is made up of an edge, ndis, cyli, edge, and a ndis. (...) (21 years ago, 10-Dec-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  More cylinder primitives wanted

Just like there are a huge number of different box primitives, with different number of edges and surfaces, I wish there were some more cylinder primitives from n-ncyli.dat We have: * cyli = cylinder with walls, no edges, no disc On my wish list: * (...)   Re: Updated Part: 700.dat - Brick 10 x 20

(...) Actually this might be faster for rendering. If you use a display list (or similar construct) for each subfile you'll be using less display list memory overall, which might lead to faster rendering. If your renderering time is constrained by (...) (21 years ago, 19-Nov-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  Re: Updated Part: 700.dat - Brick 10 x 20

(...) One other thought: every time you add a subfile, it takes time for the renderer to render it. So every call to your 4-stud primitive is going to process more slowly than the equivalent 4 lines encoded directly. So if an added subfile only (...)   Re: Updated Part: 700.dat - Brick 10 x 20

(...) Well, that's 3 lines per instance. It takes 3 calls of a group of 4 to get to the same line savings as the group of 8. And 1 x 4 and 2 x 2 groups are common enough to get at least 7 lines saved. In the 700.dat you posted, just using 1 x 4 (...) (21 years ago, 18-Nov-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  Re: Updated Part: 700.dat - Brick 10 x 20

(...) I've been thinking about groups of stud3 and stud4, but found it not too commonly used as the stud.dat. Baseplates for example have no bottom studs. There is also a little problem with the odd numbers - four top studs corresponds to three (...) (21 years ago, 17-Nov-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)

  Re: Updated Part: 700.dat - Brick 10 x 20

(...) <SNIP> It looks like there could be significant use of stud4 groups as well. I'm also thinking that 1 x n rows of stud2 and stud 3 could be useful. Not as high in demand, but the stud4 groups would be really nice. (The version of 700.dat (...) (21 years ago, 17-Nov-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts.primitives)
