There isn't always a flat rule for every case.  And we'e got plenty of 'legacy'
files that don't conform to current rules.

(In following examples YYYY is the main part number (YYYY.dat))

* ABS/CA molds (like doorframe, glass, upper and lower housing, etc.)
- Name: unique ####.dat for each bit or YYYYs##.dat?

Generally, a unique number for each file.  If we don't know any of the numbers,
then we might use s-suffixes on a single 3DN for the different files.

- Folder: Parts or Parts/S?

Most likely Parts, since each bit will have a LEGO-given number (even if we
don't know the number).

* Metal bits (like connectors and such)
- Name: YYYYs##.dat
- Folder: Parts/S

Yes.  Especially for electrical bits.

* Complete assembly door/window + glass
- Name: YYYYc##.dat or YYYY.dat?

This isn't open to question - YYYYc##

- Folder: Parts

* Complete assembly ABS/CA + metal bits
- Name: YYYY.dat or YYYYc##.dat?

Hmm.  Depends on whether there are 1 or multiple plastic parts.

- Folder: Parts

* Shortcuts (door/window + removable glass, lightbrick with removable bulb,
etc.)
- Name: YYYYc##.dat
- Folder: Parts

Anything I've missed?

Oh, probably. ;)

Several parts consist of several bits, like metal connectors for electric parts and glass for windows and doors and compound housing (e.g. top and bottom housing). How should all the various bits be named and where should they be stored? (In (...) (20 years ago, 31-Aug-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)
