This is a tricky puzzle, but due to the size of the files it is a good idea
to minimise duplication. I would organise the files like this :
Split your 4492 into:
- s\4492s01 containing all the head definition except the sides of the face
- essentially removing any region which is decorated in any version, but
divided at logical boundaries. I would probably put the mane groove
definitions into here, as I dont think the paint ever goes into these and
they are command intensive, but not the mane triangles as these can be
decorated (brown horse).
- 4492 containing everything removed from s\4492s01 in base colour -
including changing the common black eye pupil to base colour - and then a
type 1 line call to s\4492s01.dat
Create six decorated parts like
4492p01 - ... with Black Horse Pattern
4492p02 - ... with White Horse Pattern
4492p03 - ... with Brown Horse Pattern Type 1 (= the oldest version)
4492p04 - ... with Brown Horse Pattern Type 2
4492pw1 - ... with White Western Horse Pattern *
4492pw2 - ... with Brown Western Horse Pattern *
we don't have a pattern code range for "Western" yet, but W is free
http://www.ldraw.org/library/tracker/patterns
and I happy for this to be used.
Each of these would contain the same regions as in the 4492.dat and a type 1
line to s\4492s01.dat.
If any of these require dithered colours (like the maroon bridle), then the
dithered colour regions should be subfiled to a file named like s\4492p03a
(or s\4492a03 - both standards are in use), and this can be shared between
4492p03 and 4492p04.
Many thanks for taking on this challenge - I appreciate the complexity of
what you have done so far - and applying patterns to such irregular parts is
not going to be easy either - I wish you good luck and much patience.
