Can we get the wheels on straight?

This is, no doubt, going to be a pain for some people... but i was wondering if we could initiate a "standard" on the orientation of wheels... i noticed that the "giant space wheel" is rotated 90 degrees in relation to the "medium" and "small" (...) (26 years ago, 4-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad)

(...) Ooo, ick. Yes, this should be corrected. Steve (26 years ago, 4-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Can we get the wheels on straight?

(...) I agree that having parts every-which-way can be annoying. And it would be nice to have everything facing one direction. But you hit the nail on the head with your last line. Doing that would really screw up a _lot_ of old models. So I would (...) (26 years ago, 4-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Can we get the wheels on straight?

(...) I seem to have ignored the principle question in my last reply. I agree, a standard should be made for orientation of new wheels/tyres. I am opposed to altering present pieces, though. -- Terry K -- (26 years ago, 4-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad)

(...) Really? I never looked at it that way. Interesting theory. -- Terry K -- (26 years ago, 5-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Can we get the wheels on straight?

(...) It wouldn't always be possible to orient parts that way. For example, the giant space wheel (makes me think of 2001) has side-mounted studs. So should it be oriented laying down, just so the studs face upward? Steve (26 years ago, 5-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Can we get the wheels on straight?

(...) What could be done, as an ongoing effort, is this: Whenever parts are moved to new numbers, the alignment is corrected. The stub-file for the old number (with the "~Moved to" title) can put the part back to its earlier orientation. Obviously, (...) (26 years ago, 5-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Can we get the wheels on straight?

(...) I know that there are plenty of counter examples--eg, the opposite side wings where James just used a mirror matrix-- but I think it may have been a guideline and may be one we want to continue. --Bram Bram Lambrecht / o o \ BramL@juno.com (...) (26 years ago, 5-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad)
