slapping a wheel into a model may involve rotation just to get it oriented the
same as similar wheels.. it's the same story with the "technic 24x43"... we
could easily rotate the entire .dat file and then update the part... i KNOW
this would cause chaos in every model file that already has these parts in
it...

just, once again, my wish for the future...

(and if you want to know the truth, the fact that all the windscreens and other
parts that have a definitive "front" and "back" but aren't oriented the same
really cheeses me in the same way... i just figured i'd wade in lightly with a
only couple of wheel requests first... ;) personally i'd like to see the entire
catalog follow a standard.. but boy, all the model editing we would be in for)

terry K??? your input???

I agree that having parts every-which-way can be annoying.  And it would be
nice to have everything facing one direction.

But you hit the nail on the head with your last line.  Doing that would really
screw up a _lot_ of old models.
So I would weigh the slight annoyance of having to rotate a part when building,
against the outcry of protest coming from all those people who have to go back
and fix old models.....   No contest.

Rotating pieces is always going to be needed, it is unavoidable.  And once you
have a modicum of proficiency at building, it is not that difficult.
And for those who don't have that proficiency, it's good practice.  :-)

(...) I'm not sure, but I think James Jessiman's parts are oriented in the same direction as the "LEGO" text on the studs. Is this a trend that should be continued? I think it would certainly give a more accurate image for people who use the qulaity (...) (26 years ago, 5-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad)

(...) What could be done, as an ongoing effort, is this: Whenever parts are moved to new numbers, the alignment is corrected. The stub-file for the old number (with the "~Moved to" title) can put the part back to its earlier orientation. Obviously, (...) (26 years ago, 5-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad)
