  Parts names wanted

Hello everyone, Could you give a name for the following parts? (The all comes from the Dark Side Developer Kit) * number Description included in DSDK * 32311 Two 24t-gears on a bend beam (2x Dark grey) * 32324 Squared beams (4x[4x1]) (4x Light grey) (...) (24 years ago, 11-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Parts names wanted

(...) I don't have the DSDK, so I can't offer any suggestions. But if you could post some scans of the parts, maybe I could help. Steve (24 years ago, 12-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Parts names wanted

(...) I have post a scan of all elements: (URL) parts are red circled. I have also marked three different colored bars. There is no number on these. Is there a name for these ones too? Eelco Kooiker (URL) (24 years ago, 12-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Parts names wanted

(...) Ooo, yuck (that's a name-wise yuck). 32311: I'm not sure if there's a standard mechanical term for arms with fixed gears. If there is, that'd be the way to go. Otherwise, "Beam (size) Offset with End Gears" would work. 32324: Uhh, Technic (...) (24 years ago, 12-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad)

In lugnet.cad, Steve Bliss writes: My (...) Mmm, they remind me a bit to a Panama Wheel, a device for opening lock doors. It got this name because its first use was on the locks of the Panama canal. But I'm afraid that name isn't recognised ouside a (...) (24 years ago, 12-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Parts names wanted

(...) Hmm, maybe. If this part is ever modeled for LDraw, I'd have to think about it more. (...) Hmm. Looking through the part library, I see the following elements with similar large holes in their middles: <part:30250 Bracket 4 x 7 x 3> <part:4211 (...) (24 years ago, 13-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Parts names wanted

I'm glad to see some good part name thinking has come up. (...) Your term "Open Center" and the reversed order is much better than my suggestion was. I agree with this name. (...) Of course, can't do without the size. Agree. (...) [snip] (...) (...) (24 years ago, 13-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Parts names wanted

(...) I bet Eelco didn't expect this depth of response. I've noted your comments. I don't know if these changes will be included in the 2000-02 update or not. (...) Maybe "Smooth Beam". I dunno. (...) I haven't heard of "Softline", but I wonder if (...) (24 years ago, 13-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Parts names wanted

(...) So does LegoCo. (E.g., "Small Beams and Plates", set # 5228, on pg. 58 of the newest catalog I've received, "Explore New Worlds" title.) In my mind, that makes it "official". (But then again, I could be wrong.) (...) "Technic Beam (No Studs)" (...) (24 years ago, 13-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Parts names wanted

(...) Good point. But I wouldn't accept the wording in a catalog as 'official'. (...) Maybe. But that implies there are "beams with studs". And there aren't. The traditional "technic brick with holes" is a different animule than the new beams. Steve (24 years ago, 14-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad)
