I checked the properties and it did have "Close on Exit" checked.  When I
choose About from the Help menu, it says that I have version 2.1.3.

Just out of curiosity I tried a few things like running PARTPROF from a DOS
command line and executing the DIR command that PARTPROF.BAT does directly on
the command line.  Both of them worked OK as far as I could tell.  I also
opened CurParts.prf and it had what I would have expected it to have.  Then I
tried starting LDAO and while it was stuck in the VEC check I erased ppdone.flg
from a DOS window.  That worked pretty much the same way as unminimizing
PARTPROF.BAT and stopped the runaway VEC check.

I guess the one thing that I haven't really tried is making the VEC to see if
that fixed the problem, but I ran into some other problems (errors from LDRAW,
I think) and it takes so long that I couldn't really do much testing in that
regard.

Thanks for looking at this problem.

Apparently the MS-DOS window titled PARTPROF has something to do with the
problem.  It shows up minimized and when I try to look at it, it goes away.
Just now I realized that when I look at that PARTPROF window with the program
stuck in the Checking VEC mode, the program stops and seems to be OK.

Make sure there's a PARTPROF.PIF file in your LDAO directory.  In Explorer,
this file will probably show up just PARTPROF, with the type "Shortcut to
MS-DOS Program".  If you've got the latest version of LDAO, this file
should be there.  Right-click the file (in Explorer) and select Properties.
Click the Program tab, and make sure the "Close on Exit" option is checked.
Click OK, and your problem *should* be solved.
