    Painted baseplates —Heather Patey
Hi folks, I'm starting to get into LDRAW (with ML-Cad, fantastic program!), using it mainly for documenting building ideas so I can take things apart again. I've noticed that there aren't any painted flat baseplates in the parts list, such as 6071 (...) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.cad)

        Re: Painted baseplates —Steve Bliss
(...) Depends on the pattern. If there was a pattern that always covered entire stud-tops, that wouldn't be too bad to make (considering that a 32x32 has 1024 studs to be painted). But I believe most painted plates have partial covering of studs. (...) (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.cad)

BMP2DAT Re: Painted baseplates —Dave Schuler
(...) You reminded me of a question I had once before. I've used BMP2DAT a few times with success limited by my own ineptitude, but it always seems to generate really big DAT files. Am I doing something wrong, or is this the nature of the beast? (...) (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.cad)

Re: BMP2DAT Re: Painted baseplates —Steve Bliss
(...) It's the nature of the beast. LDraw is very inefficient at storing raster images, which is what BMP2DAT utilities create. Steve (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.cad)

Re: BMP2DAT Re: Painted baseplates —Tore Eriksson
Speaking about BMP2DAT - I am currently re-writing that program. So far, I've just made a slighly improved scan function, and eliminated the need of manual "vertical sync" adjustments. My wild plan is to integrate LDS, LDD, and BMP2DAT, so that you (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.cad)

Tore: (...) Sounds good. One further addition might be an ability to "print" the drawings on studded surfaces like baseplates. (...) Me too. Play well, Jacob ---...--- -- E-mail: sparre@cats.nbi.dk -- -- Web...: <URL: (URL) > -- ---...--- (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.cad)

Re: BMP2DAT Re: Painted baseplates —Tore Eriksson
(...) Well, beside the baseplate in set 6071 mentioned in the beginning of this thread, what more part would this function be useful for? /Tore (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.cad)

Re: BMP2DAT Re: Painted baseplates —Heather Patey
(...) Well, lessee. The baseplates with painted studs come in 6071, 6079 (just a few), 6090, 6260/6265, 6270, 6278/6281 (again, just a few), 6410, 6411, 6414. There may be more in other themes that I haven't spotted. If you're thinking about other (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.cad)

Re: BMP2DAT Re: Painted baseplates —Steve Bliss
(...) Sounds like an awesome idea. I've tried to do this manually, by BMP2DAT'ing an image, and then constructing the tri's and quads over top of the raster image, but it's still a huge pain. You *could* skip the BMP2DAT aspect, and just display the (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.cad)
