    Newbie/Other 3D Programs —Charles Seyferth
   Having just found this server yesterday night, I'm *overwhelmed* with the amount of information here! I picked up the whole PoVRay/Ldraw package a few years ago (I think....), and decided that PoV was not for me. I've since graduated to trueSpace (...) (25 years ago, 26-May-99, to lugnet.cad)

   (...) You might use LeoCAD to convert the parts you can't read to .3DS or .OBJ and them use another program to convert to DXF. If you want to use 3DS Max to create .DAT files, there's a program called MAX2DAT. Leonardo (25 years ago, 27-May-99, to lugnet.cad)

   (...) keep in mind that MAX2DAT goes *from* 3DSMAX *to* LDraw... i wrote it so that i could model the elements in MAX, but convert them for use in LDraw.. it sounds like this person is looking to import .Dat files *into* other CAD proggies... J (25 years ago, 27-May-99, to lugnet.cad)

     (...) and (...) My interpretation is that he wants a program that will convert from .DXF back into .DAT. I think this would be a neat thing to have, since I am more adept at programs such as AutoCAD than I am at LDraw. I do think it would be (...) (25 years ago, 27-May-99, to lugnet.cad)

   (...) and (...) That was my main goal, but I would also like to do the reverse - Model in trueSpace, and then export to LDraw for others to use. Since I'm not familiar with MAX (other than a *long* forgotten/deleted pirated version - I wanted to try (...) (25 years ago, 27-May-99, to lugnet.cad)

   (...) either a .3DX ASCII export from MAX v1.x via a plugin called "3DXExp" or a native MAX v2.x .ASE ASCII file... so basically you *have* to be originating in MAX, because i'm not aware of anything that exports out either of those... you *could* (...) (25 years ago, 27-May-99, to lugnet.cad)
