Hi Mike,

To my knowledge there are no tools to provide what you want.  We have tools
for "flexible parts", but these are limited to hoses and rubber band type parts.

How about via exporting to a different format? I'm not that familiar
with 3D modeling software, but some of them support "bones" and skeletal
animation. Not sure though if there are any free ones.

Hi there,

You could try experimenting with Unity3D. This is a free download.

It looks like the Unity suite of tools was used to create the online game Lego
game "The Quest for R2-D2"

There are some tutorials on how to create characters with joints/bones in
Cinema4D and then import them into Unity. This may give you an idea of how this
kind of thing works.

Anton Raves created a minifig animation here (I'm guessing this was a POV-Ray
animation)

I would be interested to know how you get on.

Have fun

Reuben

(...) Thanks for the awesome set of links!! Saves me a ton of work! I will have to see how well they integrate with LDraw generated models. Mike (14 years ago, 16-Aug-10, to lugnet.cad)
