It's not all that rare, and becoming less rare all the time...

Consequently, I don't think adding "Official" to official
part names is a viable solution.  (To be honest, it would also by really
annoying to see that on the end of all official part names.)  The length
restriction could probably be safely ignored with unofficial parts.  Although
I'm not sure this is a good solution to the problem, I can't think of something
better off-hand.

The UI could display a small "unofficial" icon beside unofficial parts in what
part tree/list/pallette is offered by the software.
