Before clicking OK, take a look at the contents of the ~vec*.dat
file(s). It sounds like they are getting some garbage.
Also, check the ldraw.ini file, the section [Catalog Tool] section
should look something like this:

Internal=False
RequiresFile=False
RunInBAT=False
NeedsShortName=False
MenuCaption=Render
ButtonCaption=Render
ToolText=Rendering program for VEC
CommandLine=%base%\ldlite\ldlite.exe %model% %parm%
WorkingDirectory=%base%

| (...) My ldraw.ini looks okay. In the ~vec*.dat file (there's only one) I see this text: 0 Visual Element Catalog image generator 0 CLEAR 1 16 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 3005-2.DAT 0 STEP 0 CLEAR 1 16 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 3005-3.DAT 0 STEP 0 CLEAR 1 (...) (26 years ago, 1-Mar-99, to lugnet.cad)
