James Jessiman Memorial Award for 2005

The James Jessiman Memorial Award was established by the Jessiman Family to honor an individual who has contributed to the furthering of LDraw, the DAT format, and James' memory. This year, in consultation with the Jessiman's, the LDraw.org Steering (...) (19 years ago, 15-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw, lugnet.announce) !!

Re: attn Jake/TLC/whoever, about Lego Digital Designer file format/SDK

(...) I think I've already commented on that. I've partially reverse-engineered the format, but since the libraries are incompatible (the 'rotation' point of brick in Ldraw formate is somewhere else than the rotation point in LDD library), you'd (...)   Re: attn Jake/TLC/whoever, about Lego Digital Designer file format/SDK

(...) I'm already on this issue. After last night's (Sat 13th) annoucement regarding LEGO factory, I'm looking to at least pull Jake aside to talk while I'm still hear at Brickfest. -Orion (19 years ago, 14-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.dear-lego)

attn Jake/TLC/whoever, about Lego Digital Designer file format/SDK

When Lego Digital Designer was first announced/released, the community was told that the file format specs or a SDK so that people can read and write the LDD files would be made available. What is the status on this? I am sure that if this was to (...) (19 years ago, 14-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Do we have a plan B?

(...) Whew - I did get very seriously concerned on the rumours I had heard in various quarters on this topic. I think it is worth Suz making a very public Lugnet announcement to that affect to quash all the rumours and hearsay on this subject. (...) (19 years ago, 13-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)

New Part: 4071 Fabuland Door with Frame 1 of 4  [DAT]

Dear List, Please find attached in this and in the next posts the "Fabuland Door with Frame" part. Since it consists of two detachable subparts (the frame and the door ), they are modelled in 4071a.dat and 4071b.dat respectively, with 4071c01.dat as (...)   Re: Do we have a plan B?

(...) Hi Rosco, At Friday's Brickfest opening meeting, Suz announced that LUGNET will live, and will be administered by the gentleman that manages 1000Stein. This means that LUGNET *will* still be around, so until there are indications to the (...) (19 years ago, 13-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)

Re: Is Lsynth being used to make string?

(...) Ummm I think there may be a little confusion :) Only 2 of those pics are rendered: (URL) and (URL) (19 years ago, 13-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)

Re: Is Lsynth being used to make string?

(...) You rendered that?! Oh my goodness, that looks real! That is some awesome work. Did you lose Lgeo models for the heads to make them look smooth? (19 years ago, 13-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)

  Re: Question about "stickers"

(...) You make the sticker whatever size it actually is. If it's 40 LDU wide and extend to the edges then that's what you make. A sticker is just like any other part: it must be modelled as close to the real life part as possible (including size). (...) (19 years ago, 13-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

  Re: Question about "stickers"

(...) Hi Mark, I agree with Tim. I don't think this should be a set standard, you should make the stickers a size that looks good. In your case, I think I prefer the 1LDU inset, but it's really up to you. The 0.25 LDU is just to try & make sure the (...) (19 years ago, 12-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts, FTX)

  Re: Question about "stickers"

I am also not on the LSC but I think that Tim's remarks make a lot of sense. (19 years ago, 12-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Re: Is Lsynth being used to make string?

(...) For the renders in this model (URL) I used a spreadsheet to work out positions for 4-4cyli.dat primitives to create 1/4 and 1/2 torii, and then just long 4-4cyli.dats for the straight sections. There are now torus primitives available in (...) (19 years ago, 12-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)

  Re: Question about "stickers"

(...) --SNIP PIC-- Hi Mark, I would assume that if it is a user created sticker you can put it where you want. For official stickers I assume you make them the same size as the original sticker. Which sort do you mean? I suspect the 0.25 LDU is (...) (19 years ago, 12-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

  Question about "stickers"

So far, the only standard I've found about modeling sticker "parts" is that they should be 0.25 LU off the surface of the piece they will be "stickered" to. What about width & length compared to the surface? I.E: sticker for shields - should they (...) (19 years ago, 12-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts, FTX)

Is Lsynth being used to make string?

I've seen some great renders of Legos that have string for cranes and such. Is Lsynth being used to create string, or are they using a different program? I'm looking through the options and tutorials about Lsynth, but I don't see string mentioned. (...) (19 years ago, 12-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)

Re: Do we have a plan B?

(...) I too hope that Lugnet continues. But I see no problem looking at options. Especially if you want time to get a solution of equal comfort :) I don't think it would hurt to investigate options, and maybe even create/install discussion software (...)
