For the renders in this model
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=33026 I used a spreadsheet to
work out positions for 4-4cyli.dat primitives to create 1/4 and 1/2 torii, and
then just long 4-4cyli.dats for the straight sections. There are now torus
primitives available in ldraw, it may be easier to use them.
Failing that, I did once use pnuematic hose with lsynth to simulate thick
string, and that looked ok too.
