6 sided string "primitive" with emphasis on primitive!  [DAT]

Since there was some discussion about this... I posted the 4 sided one here (URL) of these are very "good" as in high fidelity, they totally do not model that the string is 3 twisted cylindrical/toroidal shapes, but for black string they work pretty (...)   Re: LSynth and string

(...) I'm not too familiar with Lego string either but my proposal would be most useful for situations where you have any number of colours, twisting slowly around the string length (like a candy cane for example). I certainly don't recall seeing (...) (19 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LSynth and string

(...) For POV-Ray, it seems like the best results would be obtained through some kind of mapping. Use a plain cylinder object with 'string texture' mapped onto it. Steve (19 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LSynth and string

(...) That sounds like the best idea, if someone wants to make this file. If no one has the time or inclination, then let's not hold this process up. (...) That would be a good idea, too. Steve (hmm, I wonder why lugnet won't accept this post?) (19 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LSynth and string

(...) Those are definitely advantages toward Larry's file. We should probably integrate Larry's code into my subfile, one way or the other. One way to integrate the part files would be to submit Larry's file as a a subfile, in parts\s\, and have the (...) (19 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LSynth and string

(...) I know I've seen black and red LEGO string, but I've not seen multi-colored string (I'm not very worldy that way sticking to robotics and technic). Larry produced a string segment that looks a little like one of those tiny stands they get (...) (19 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LSynth and string

(...) LEGO string is a tri-twist. LSynth knows about twisting things (e.g. minifig-chain). LSynth's twist amount/fixed segment is configurable. We could decide what the sortest segment we would ever need and then maybe use 3, 6, or 9 cylinders to (...) (19 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LSynth and string

(...) Should the black be changed to "main color" but the grey left as is? My quick cheat was that by using grey with the black I was sort of, at low rez, mimicking the highlighting that you get from the string's surface (most string fibers are (...) (19 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)
