(...) Thanks about the piece thing, that will work fabulously. As for getting the steps on the LDRAW files, I was able to fix that myself, you see, the DAT I had downloaded didn't have any steps. Some time ago I updated the 1x1, 1x2, 1x4, 1x6, 1x8 and 2x2 tiles... adding the small groove along the bottom of each. I also added this groove to many of the 2x2 decorated tiles (I'm working on the others at the moment). I handed these off to Terry (...) (24 years ago, 30-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Well, with the stock market tanking and the prospects of a manditory pre-IPO crunch-time fading, I may have spare cycles to do something over Christmas.
