i must admit that i am not an expert at dithering. i have made improvements to
Briksaic so it gives more accurate results. i took the CameronDiaz picture and
ran it through Bricksaic to compare the results with Maartens results. Though
they are not the same they are closer to what should be expected. (im sure the
difference is different implementations of algorithms).
1. original image
2. Black and White.
3. Black, White, and Gray.
4. Black, White, Gray, and Dark Gray.
5. Black, White, Gray, Yellow, Blue.
6. Black, White, Gray, Dark Gray, Yellow, Blue, Green, Brown, Tan, Orange,
Medium Blue, and Lime, Red.
7. Same colors as 6 but Nearest color.
8. Black, White, Brown, Tan, Light Yellow, Earth Orange, and Dark Orange.
Nearest Color.
9. Black, White, Redish Brown, Brown, Dark Tan, Tan
Maarteens gray scale images look much smoother than mine. The color dithers
are really close. The Nearest Color are totally different.
im working on many more improvements in Bricksaic. grid lines, printable map,
and pixel color editing are the main changes. a new version should be available
some time next week. i will make an announcement when the new version is
posted.

| Before I started writing a program to create mosaics from my own pictures, I needed lots of information on "how to reduce the colour palette of an image to a custom colour palette". I started searching on Google with simple keywords "colour palette" (...) (20 years ago, 13-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mosaic, FTX)
