The obvious solution for me is a frame-by-frame construction, with
each stud being rendered into a "frame."  So I'll be building the
flare out SNOTwise below deck level.  I have frame-by-frame diagrams
of _Takao_ which shall be adequate.  It's not going to be perfect,
and there will be pixellation, but I expect it won't be a jump of more
  than 2.5 plates' height anywhere.

Interesting. I've been trying to figure out a stable solution for strange
curves like that for my next wet-navy project... this might be what I'm
looking for. Hmm...

What I do is build the general curve around the blocky basis of
the hull--you know, a vertically straight horizontal curve.  Then
I build the curve outward on that.  It does mean that my internal
order is square; but it also means that I can use odd colors (read:
conserve my dark grey) underneath the main hull curve.

If you look in my Brickshelf gallery, you can sort of see how it all
   went together:

But I didn't take any in-process photos of the bow.  I used this
process for that bow, but it wasn't nearly as complex as this will
   need to be.

The stern, thankfully, is virtually straight vertically.

Small favors, eh? : )

Very small.  Why do you think this is a waterline model?  ;)
