Indeed it does! (Definitely double rails for me, next time!)

(Based on my experiments with double rails... but using SNOT uprights,
rather than headlight bricks).
I'm not convinced of the overall benefit of this; While it may be marginally
more stable, it will mean that the whole rail is interconnected and I
suspect, harder to remove to get at other components, easier to damage in
transit (if transit is under consideration, that is), and harder to install
(I think it would be easier to pre-make sections of rail and install them
one at a time).
The bigger downside to offsetting the joins, is that you're offsetting the
angles (rather than smooth curves) at the joins - assuming there is a curve
to the rail (and that is a big assumption). If it is a curved rail, offset
joins will produce a section where the top and bottom rails aren't parallel,
and non parallel rails will be quite noticeable. If the curve is shallow
enough, this can probably be fixed just by a bit of twisting and pushing,
but the tendency will be to move the rails out of alignment.
