Request for help: bomber gun turrets —William R. Ward
I'm working on a rather ambitious project - a minifig-scale WWII/Korean War bomber (1 stud = 1 foot). It is the Navy's PB4Y-2 "Privateer", which is derived from the B-24. My dad flew Privateers in the Korean War (dropping flares, not bombs). So far (...) (23 years ago, 14-Sep-01, to lugnet.build.military, lugnet.build)

(...) Cool! The only Korean war era plane I've ever considered is the tigercat, congrats for being the first! (I think :-D)> (...) I'm no master yet, but I have some experience and a lot of unshown tinkering with turrets etc. so I'll go on it (...) (23 years ago, 14-Sep-01, to lugnet.build.military)

well here's some pics of my idea, feel free to use it modify it anything, doesn't matter, it may be a little too small for the scale you're working at but I hope it works, of course colour code it, I didn't bother, BTW, this is for the front upper (...)      (...) have to find a way to make it rotate.... I don't have any of those helicopter windscreens in trans-light-blue, which is the color I'm planning to use for all the windows of this beast. Perhaps i can find some on e-bay. I would love to have the (...) (23 years ago, 14-Sep-01, to lugnet.build.military)

(...) oops, I didn't realize it rotated, I'll try and come up with something if you want. (...) Try brickbay.com, very good way to get parts in bulk. I would love to have the radar dishes on the sides be (...) The downside of working in black and (...) (23 years ago, 15-Sep-01, to lugnet.build.military)

Re: Request for help: bomber gun turrets —William R. Ward
(...) Feel free; I'll do the same. The turret on the nose is a ball turret, actually; it rotates and tilts. We can fudge some of that, but I want it to be as close as possible if I can. For example the wings and tails have moving flaps, the turrets (...) (23 years ago, 15-Sep-01, to lugnet.build.military)

snip> > (...) But my design still isn't quite right... gotta keep working on it. (...) well to work I go! until I figure out exactly how to do this, I'm going to keep building. You could use bionicle balls to make it rotate all around,(?) C'ya (...) (23 years ago, 15-Sep-01, to lugnet.build.military)

Re: Request for help: bomber gun turrets —William R. Ward
(...) I was able to get the helicopter windscreen to work the way you suggested - thanks! Instead of the 4x4 dish, though, I used the "Windscreen 5 x 2 x 1 & 2/3": (URL) was able to mount it using SNOT techniques at about a 60 degree angle so that (...)         Re: Request for help: bomber gun turrets —Geordan Hankinson
Glad to have been a help, I spent some more time on it the other day, but I couldn't find a design that was compact, and worked, glad you found a solution though! Can't wait to see the final product! -Geordan- (...) (23 years ago, 21-Sep-01, to lugnet.build.military)

(...) My solution swivels, but doesn't pivot up and down. I figured that was just too hard to do in Lego. --Bill. (23 years ago, 22-Sep-01, to lugnet.build.military)
