It's MY DESIGN for the mecha hands, but I don't care who uses them.
As to the question of Lego elements -- these are not Lego elements no matter
how much some would like them to be. Instead, they are digital rendered
elements similar to Lego elements, with sufficient subtle differences from
the design of Lego elements as to be a thing of their own entirely, even
without consideration of the fact that Lego bricks are made of plastic and
that these cad bricks are computer media only. My understanding of how this
works is that if someone does a painting of a teapot, I can copy this image
in clay -- and both I, as a sculptor, and the "original" painter have rights
to our respective works. Even if the painter claimed rights to the teapot
"design", if my own work had even one or two subtle differences there would
be no copyright infringement of the design. Similarly, if I wanted to create
a font with an appearance similar to say "Times Roman" as made by some
company, but in order to make it I did all my own design -- with subtle
differences in the weight of the font, or the curves of the serifs, then the
design is mine and I can call what I will. These are, of course, just my
own opinions and not to be taken as legal advice.
I looked again to make sure, but there are no "Lego" logos on any studs of
the hands...looks like I can do what I want with the design.
