Mark, thanks for the post since I have been the one that has been asking. I’m not sure if I should smile or cry ... it’s so beautiful. I caught my first glimpse of it this morning on Brickshelf! Seeing the inner-workings on a project like this is amazing. I just find myself staring. I love it.

But what’s interesting, so far, is the hip. There are three technic turntables and eight wormed gears in the hip. Three axis rotation on each leg mount, the torso will twist and a torso tilt, side to side. I managed to get most of it into a small area, that’s the thing.

Ah, I’d say. I have a question on a worm gear that is hidden from the camera. Coming off of the turntable on the legs that supplies the rotation in the x-axis how does that worm gear work to allow the leg to rotation around the y-axis? Could you supply a picture of that rotation?

The other aspect that is new here for me is the side to side motion of the body. The technic shocks come into play for that. (I’m hoping they don’t get totally covered in the final) Yeah, they look cool, but they are helping to support the body when tilted, taking some of the stress off the gears and the bricks they are attached to. Yeah, two springs is way overkill for what you see now, but once a body gets built on there, it’ll be plenty adequate.

Can’t wait to see Anvil crouched over picking up the couch and looking under it.

Thank you for the incentive!

Brian

I'll get a pic up pretty soon, but there are two knobs you can just see, they have the flat 2x2 tiles on them, there is a worm gear contacting the exterior gearing of the table in vertially in the back of the hip. that is what controls the (...) I thought I'd share this as I've seen some postings asking about this very sort of building. One of my mechs, Hammer, fell and had a boo boo. Atomized would be the word. So anway I'm taking it all in stride and building a new mech. I'm gonna call (...) (20 years ago, 14-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX) !
