(Rude and uncouth, yes. Very probably wrong, yes. But somebody had to.)

I just did some checking before I posted this. I wouldn’t want to post something incorrect. There have been just as many posts in frequency and number in .castle as before and after Classic-Castle was created. I would even argue that there has been more activity in .castle since. I had to go through nearly 1800 posts just to get back to when Classic-Castle was launched in September, doesn’t feel like .Castle is all that dead.

It was mentioned elsewhere in this thread that discussion of basics would be a beneficial, and that because it has already been discussed it hasn’t been discussed again. Because of C-C’s age and design, basic and advanced construction techniques have been brought up and discussed many times, and helpful and useful articles, sometimes coming out of these discussions have and can be posted to the website for future reference.

Classic-Castle has also discovered at least 50 to 100 and maybe even 150 new AFOLs and TFOLs that did not like or never wanted to post to Lugnet, as their personal preference was against Lugnet’s design or community. I don’t think you’d complain about getting 50 or 150 new members to .mecha. I could be wrong though.

I’m not sure where you got your information that .castle was killed off because another website was created. Larry P. even commented in the C-C forums that the website was a perfect compliment, as opposed to competitor, with Lugnet and Lugnet.castle, and Lar is one of the most pro-Lugnet people I know.

He’s even flat out said that “It hasn’t killed off lugnet.castle the way that lugnet.starwars was lessened by FBTB... lots of people still post in both places and there’s healthy traffic back and forth.” Sorry, Lar, if you didn’t want that quoted.

No, no, not at all,,, in fact I,m VERY glad you quoted me... I would have brought it up eventually, but it’s better that you did. Thanks!

If you don’t want to make an off-site area for .mecha, that’s fine, but please don’t deface and shoot down a working and thriving community with such incorrect blanket statements.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment there.

An off-site area is not necessarily the (or one of several) right answer(s) but it’s not GIVEN that it’s the wrong answer either. Assuming your desired outcome is a healthy community that shares successfully in both places. (and that’s not a given either. maybe it is, maybe it isn’t) it is probably very doable. Learn from CC, learn from FBTB... there are good things about both (although as a “pro LUGNET person” I of course like how CC turned out better since there’s more synergy), and lessons for you too, if you want them.

All that said, I think there may be more castle people than there are mecha people, even if you factor in the lurkers out there... you could argue that as a fan created theme there are likely to be less lurkers for .mecha (but I’m not sure about that...), and as a relatively new theme, there are also likely to be less lurkers.

I could be all wet though. I wish you all the best no matter what! Good luck in your investigation. If you come up with interesting conclusions around things that LUGNET could be doing to make things easier, and you don’t think I caught them, please ping me, the Transition Team is very interested in this kind of stuff..
