I hate to nag right off, but could you please break up your paragraphs in the future? It’s easier on the eyes.

I heartily approve. I’ll gladly admit I have contributed very little aside from posting my occasional finished projects because I don’t really have any discussion history with anyone and feel a bit like an outsider, but I read .mecha constantly and look at every single MOC that gets posted.

I think we need to work on changing that in a big way. My perception is that .mecha isn’t as cohesive as it could be. We’re mostly strangers.

I also have tons of outside influences and other pursuits to discuss if people want to broaden the discussion or also if we want to get to really specific part related or engineering discussions.

See, that’s exactly what we need. Even if we get off-topic, we’ll establish a better sense of community. Go for it.

For instance, I rarely see any discussions about joints or building styles that carry along any real clear or useful images or follow out to an end where you begin to have a teenie revelation about another way of negotiating space and form with the brick(s).

I think part of the problem is that a lot of this ground has been covered before, and nobody wants to go over it again when it’s all archived. Bugger that!

.mecha is the main reason I got back into building a few years ago - I started to realize that my understanding of the brick as a way to express and explore ideas and concepts could really transcend the standard “brick on top of brick” vocabulary and take the lego aesthetic to new places - that’s what makes .mecha so interesting as a group.

Agreed. My interest in Lego mecha is primarily driven by a desire to transcend the medium as well, not neccessarily as a SNOT exercise but as way of bringing out something other than just a pretty pile of bricks - I want to give my creations a force of personality.

That’s what I call it, anyway. Sort of an awkward concept to render in words, like any internal jargon.

So - again a hearty shout of approval, let’s get this thing kickin’. Along with more frequent discussion it would be great to be able to see more of the recent MOC’s in the sidebar so that it’s easier to jump around and see what people are doing... and also great to see people post links or images of sources of influence, etc...

Remember, don’t ask Dave or Eric or the other posters to improve, improve your own posting habits. Think about what you can do to get others going. I’ll get a collection of my links up.

We do need to update some of the sidebar links though. Time to E-mail Dave...
