  MOC: Giant Lobster

Greetings all! I haven't posted in this particular group before, but after seeing this MOC in Space, Anne (The Lego Tiger) suggested I post it here: (URL) guess it is kinda mechy. Hope you enjoy it! Dave (21 years ago, 22-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Aldebaran's New Clothes

(...) perfect. I expected a more Cephus-type creation from your description (like Mladen said, the whole function dictates form thing), but this is just cool. Very action-figurey. And I absolutely adore the head design. Using that Clickit for an eye (...) (21 years ago, 21-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: D E E P F R A H

(...) Dang! Dat's a big piece a cherry pah! So retro sweet. The whole package is amazing, but I find myself keep coming back to the legs. They are so wonderfully proportioned and engreebled. The jump rockets splay out just enough as well....too (...) (21 years ago, 21-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: Aldebaran's New Clothes

(...) Coming from you, the O.G. bar-raiser, that means a lot :) (...) Thanks! Lego keeps making it easier for me. I don't have to spend 90% of the mecha building time inventing custom joints or ways to stiffen pre-existing systems. I think that deep (...) (21 years ago, 21-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: Aldebaran's New Clothes

(...) Check out this pic: (URL) little thing is an alpha male. I love STIKFAS! I wanted to give the frame the same range of motion as the Stickfas figures; needless to say, they were a source of inspiration... Thanks for the kind words! Chris (21 years ago, 21-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Aldebaran's New Clothes

(...) Thanks! (...) I don't think he wants the mecha folks to know he's making buildings ;-) (...) Man, I'm glad you noticed! I was thinking ths same thing when I made them. It took a while for me to figure out how to cover them and not limit range (...) (21 years ago, 21-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Aldebaran's New Clothes

(...) -snip a lot of good backstory- (...) Hey Chris! So glad to see new stuff from you. I love how you go for quality over quantity. Every once in a while you show off a mecha that raises the bar in terms of posability and general "coolness". What (...) (21 years ago, 21-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: Aldebaran's New Clothes

Chris, Just wondering, but have you ever heard of STIKFAS? Because looking at those pics, I was like "Wow, he built a STIKFAS figure out of Lego!" AWESOME (Stikfas or no)! I absolutely love it - he's ready to kick-box the enemy ... he looks organic, (...) (21 years ago, 21-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Aldebaran's New Clothes

(...) FRIGGIN AWESOME! This is uber badass. I see you borrowed bryce's bajonkin red building eh? He needs to do more things with those.. like maybe a destruction scene heh. :P Geez this thing is such an awesome mech. Your mechs always have this (...)   Aldebaran's New Clothes

Hello everone... Here is my new mecha - Aldebaran: (URL) got the idea when I started toying around with a SBD click hinge based armature: (URL) figured the whole "building a frame" style of construction was a good way to 1) carefully control the (...)   Re: D E E P F R A H

(...) Thanks Chris. (...) I know I haven't built any new ones in a long time, but I'd rather have inspiration beforehand... I don't want to repeat myself. :) -Grand Admiral and Keeper of Fleebnorks (URL) "Adopt a fleebnork. They're DYING!" -Sally (...)   Re: D E E P F R A H

(...) Thanks Trev. The knees use good ol' technic click hinges. Every other joint uses this: (URL) I also just updated the page with the Freem Cannon, which is going to show up on a PCS ship Chris is working on. :) -Grand Admiral and Keeper of (...)   Re: D E E P F R A H

(...) I like my homefrahs with eggs and cripy bacon. You need to put instructions out on your leg and torso joint ideas. And the gun rocks. Nuff said. ~Trev (21 years ago, 20-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: D E E P F R A H

(...) Thanks Chris. The torso actually "floats" above the pelvis. The spine is the only thing that connects the two. I thought his gun should have lots of shiny bits. :) -Grand Admiral and Keeper of Fleebnorks (URL) "Adopt a fleebnork. They're (...)   Re: D E E P F R A H

(...) Mark, awesome. I love the contrasting of large elements (like the lower legs) against smaller elements (like the thighs). Very Iron Giant-ish, as was stated. The torso design is pretty nifty too, using that bionicle piece for a spine. And I (...) (21 years ago, 20-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: D E E P F R A H

(...) Thanks Jeff. I actually used the Iron Giant as a point of inspiration for the general shape of this mecha. I wanted to make it very Art Deco looking, and have the sort of lanky look of the IG. It feels like it came off pretty well. -Grand (...) (21 years ago, 20-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)
