Contest Entry for Non-violent space contest: Maven Long Range Scout —Adrian Drake
Here's my entry for Paul Hartzog's space contest. It's the Maven Long Range Scout / Espionage Ship. Its design was heavily influenced by the SR-71 Blackbird, and it basically fills the same role. Enjoy! (URL) (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.build.contests, lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

(...) That's awesome, Adrian! Very nice lines. I like the stowable array in the body. The cockpit is very nicely laid out as well. Good stuff! Joel J (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.space)

(...) One of the driving design goals on this is I wanted it to be very sleek and powerful looking. The array stows into the bay to preserve those lines. It took almost every black 1x3 and 2x3 slope I had to make it this streamlined too :) (...) (...) (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.space)

(...) Hmm... looks like your technic wheel hubs exhibit the same cracks as mine. (URL) J. Spencer Rezkalla (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.space)

(...) Yeah, they've seen better days :) It's all the popping in and out of the large tires to the smaller tires that does it. I stick my thumb against the center of the hub and give them a mighty push. It tends to put undue stresses on them. Oh (...) (23 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.space)

Re: Contest Entry for Non-violent space contest: Maven Long Range Scout —Kyle Keppler
Very nice! Ya just gotta love the SR-71's shape. I love your engines! Great amount of detail. They look very powerfull. And I can't foget all the opening goodies. Moving parts are very nice. I've never been able to do landing gear very well :-( but (...) (23 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.space)

Re: Contest Entry for Non-violent space contest: Maven Long Range Scout —Adrian Drake
I really liked the way this gear turned out. Not bad for my first attempt :) Click hinges really are the saviours for strong landing gear joints. I didn't document it, but the front wheel actually turns too. When I built the engines, I started with (...) (23 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.space)

Re: Contest Entry for Non-violent space contest: Maven Long Range Scout —Mladen Pejic
Wow! VERY impressive Adrian! Like others have said, you can't go wrong by making a Blackbird-like ship. I really like all the parts of the craft as well, especially the engines, and landing gear. The colour scheme is also very well done! Great job! (...) (23 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.space)

Thanks. Compliments from the experts at building nifty looking space vehicles (like yourself) mean a lot to me. They're what drive me to push the limits of what I can do with the almighty brick. Now that I've used the red ninja flag on a ship, I (...) (23 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.space)
