Well, Santas origins actually go back to the Christian Saint Nicholas from the
4th century, but yes, Santa does have both Christian and non-Christian
influences. (for a reasonably fair and balanced article on his origins and

Origins aside, the Santa that the contest website refers to is the Kneeling
Santa, a somewhat well-known image/statue. A number of variations can be seen
on the website: http://www.catholicsupply.com/christmas/kneelsanta.html
but one example is this:
The website text states: Kneeling Santa figures are a subtle reminder to
children that Santa is not the main focus of Christmas. Of course, this is not
a sentiment shared by athiests.
