Duh, yes.  Sorry for the confusion.  Shock absorber seems like a much
better term.

I used a 4595.dat Brick 1 x 2 x 2/3 with Studs on Sides between them so each
"suspender" hole fit over a side stud on that part.  So the stud in the hole
holds it quite tightly.

I see.  Personally, I don't like so much to put studs into axle holes,
as I feel that the studs are a little bit too wide, and may thus cause
wear in the ABS.  But on the other hand, we're seeing this used more and
more in regular LEGO models.

I wonder, when was the first time LEGO used the "stud in axle hole"
concept?  For some reason, I think that this was first used during the
recent years, but I have no documentation at all.
