Mark: nope, it's not. I ran out and bought a 7313 (what the heck, they're
20% off at Zellers, so it came out to just over $22 (about $15 $USD)) and
the pieces are blue grey (very close to the shade Jay rendered his Ties in,
but a little more saturated). The box states 194 pieces (I think, I don't
have it handy right now) and aside from 3 or 4 'throw away' pieces, it was
very non-juniorized AND amazingly the colours were all in the same end of
the spectrum: blue was the only primary colour, with light grey, blue grey,
dark grey and black (oh yeah, trans orange details... ugh... but at least
there weren't many). Another interesting note is the trans-smoke canopy
piece uses click hinges to attach (didn't look like it would in the photos).
The grey blue is a touch darker than the standard light grey, so I'm hoping
the new shades of red, green, and purple are also darker and just as
non-saturated.
So the good news is it's definitely grey-blue (when you pick up a copy,
compare it to set 7317, the Mars base: that lavender colour is quite
different (no, I don't like the lavender either)). Actually, if you have the
actual catalog, on the page featuring the Mars base if you look to the lower
left you can see blue bricks next to blue grey bricks next to lavender: you
can see the 3 shades more clearly when juxtaposed like that.
The bad news: out of the 194 pieces, only 16 are blue grey, and of those, 6
are 2x1 grill tiles and 5 are the 45 degree apex roof slope with overhang/flange
http://guide.lugnet.com/partsref/search.cgi?q=3049
The worse news: not a single regular brick or plate in that colour (Dear
Lego: please make a blue-grey tub with regular bricks, plates and slopes!)
D'oh. So the dream of a properly coloured Tie Fighter is still a ways off;
but it's definitely a start!
Jay, I can't wait to see your ties built IRL in the intended colours!
Mark W.
p.s. anyone else find it strange the catalogs don't have the Technic
Stormtrooper or 3PO? Yes, I guess that means it's in the Technic catalog
only, but the previous Star Wars Technic sets were in the regular catalog...
