I built a microfig scale Borg Cube... <G>  (4 2x4 black bricks)

Actually, another cool ship to build would be the Delta Flyer from Voyager.
My biggest problem with Star Trek is there are no small one/two manned
fighters.  All of the crafts are big... ("The Federation designed them for a
large scale assault, or they would have a tighter defense.  A small
one-manned fighter should have no trouble penetrating the outer defenses..."
;)

I think any faction with many small fighters would have a tactical advantage
in the Star Trek universe.  That's one reason why I prefer Star Wars to
Trek... but I don't want to start a debate.  I like Trek, I just prefer SW.

The ST universe has fighters, they just don't focus on them in the shows. If
anyone recalls the Next Gen episode where Wesley (yeah I know, ugh) almost
gets kicked out of Starfleet Academy for doing some risky stunt in a
fighter/trainer.

Still, might be fun to see more of 'em

No, I think it comes down to the weapon sizes.  Not many brigs were built,
because a brig could not stand against anything larger (with more guns) than
itself...therefore, the ships tended to be larger.

I think the same ideas were used in Star Trek, that the weapons systems were
quite large, therefore the ships must also be quite large to accomidate them.
The shuttle craft are relatively small (about 10'x40' or so, IIRC), but only
mount a small defensive laser/phaser rather than anything that can penatrate
shielding of any strength.

I think that Star Trek thought that shielding would make the smaller weapons
inadaquate in comparison to the shielding power available to even a minor ship,
therefore you need a large gun (and platform) to be of use against a ship.
Given decent computers, the survival of a lightly shielded ship in a fight is
not very good. (even in modern warfare...except that the shields are rather
different...)

I play contemorary war games (Harpoon 97, mostly, waiting for H4 computer) and
modern ship size is determined by the size of the weapons systems (and the cost
too!)
