Mark S, Bryce:
Thanks for your kind comments, but do remember I didn't come up with the idea
for doing a Lego Transformer. Mike Wampole's Legobots (and Joel Kuester's Lego
Transformers) inspired me to do just that (and that's currently what I'm
working on, more Transformers. I've just been stymied by a couple problem on
the current batch I can't quite seem to work around. (plus Mike's idea for
tucking away the gun in vehicle mode was brilliant; I wish the actual toy had
done that. The toy did store his fists in the cab in vehicle mode though, and
I included that)). Gotta give credit where credit is due.

The only real difference is that I was determined to make them transform while
still having removable minifigs (Optimus' cab fits 2 minfigs side-by-side) and
hence scale them to the same scale I build town and Star Wars vehicles in.

That F-15 is huge! Cool!

Yup. A touch over 2 and a half feet. It's almost the largest Lego model I ever
built, that's why I haven't disassembled it. (The largest: I once built a
crappy 3 1/2 ft long Space Battleship Yamato / Argo, but it was very pixely --
and way too tall -- and hence not kept)

Mark S: btw, I would've entered your space civie contest, but you've probably
noticed: I don't have anything that's space related AND non military. D'oh.
Cool site, by the way (Hence the CSOTW!) Love your mechs (I'm gonna have to
ask you and Mladen how to deal with shoulder joint capable of lifting a really
heavy arm). And is that a StarBlazers inspired ship design I see (another
Yamato fan?!). It has a wicked Earth Defence Force feel to it. I would've kept
my Yamato if it had turned out that well.

(...) One thing I like about your Optimus is the fact that he transforms, is poseable, -and- looks good in both modes. I've seen several transforming LEGO robots, but not all of them look good and are functional in both modes. (...) That's also a (...) (24 years ago, 13-Sep-00, to lugnet.build)

(...) Nope. The original Diaclone series came with little men that drove/flew the robots, and the American Transformers series kept the access to the cockpits while doing away with actually giving you the little men. Therefore, Optimus' cab opens, (...) (24 years ago, 13-Sep-00, to lugnet.build)

(...) I asked that exact question back here: (URL) best thing that worked for me was to cut small pieces of paper in strips, then fold the strips up (i think I ended up with 10 layers or so of paper) and cut them to be just a little longer and wider (...) (24 years ago, 13-Sep-00, to lugnet.build)
