Not that I advise painting, but Id think the best way to get good coverage
without being too thick or heavy-handed would be to use an airbrush, like
plastic model builders use to detail stuff. Depending on the tip, they can
have a fine or wide spray path, and put down just enough paint to get the job
done without getting all cake-ey.

Seconded. I would suggest an acrylic hobby paint, such as Tamiya, Gunze Sangyo,
Testors, or Polly Scale. Theres other brands, as well -- see your local hobby
shop (bring the baseplate and explain what youre trying to do, and they can
probably help you figure out what you need). You can spray it pretty thin. If
youre painting a lighter color onto a darker color (like a green baseplate),
you might need a primer, too, to keep the baseplate color from bleeding through.
If you want a glossy finish, you can airbrush Future Floor Polish over your
paint - it makes a nice shine. Google for airbrushing future floor polish and
youll come up with plenty of good hits, and tips for dilution ratios, etc.
You might want to mask off the areas you wont be building on, so the pieces fit
better... James Wilson Dallas, TX
