I would have loved to have had a cube that was more aesthetically pleasing like
yours is, using LEGO for the colours - unfortunately my collection wouldnt
stretch to that, hence the stickers were used to tidy up how it looked. Your
roll the dice post has given me a few ideas (BTW a 3x3x3 and 4x4x4 dice are
possible I beleive) as to some obvious use of tiles :-)
Good luck with minaturising the cube to 4x4x4. Mine used 6x6x6 pieces - 2 studs
smaller than yours. I originally toyed with a 3x3x3, then 4x4x4, then 5x5x5.
It wasnt until the 6x6x6 model that I had any luck - mainly because of the
corner pieces and the central mechanism. I might give a 4x4x4 a go at some
stage, but the cube is no longer on my priority list of things that must be
built! I look forward to seeing your 4x4x4 cube.

| Yes, I only searched on "Rubik" and not on "Rubic". That explains why I couldnt't find anything. The oldest picture I found of my first attempt (4x4x4 studs for every element) is dated August 11, 2002. I just didn't finish it then because I (...) (21 years ago, 24-Nov-03, to lugnet.build, FTX)
