To all AFOL's,

Is it possible to build a Rubik Cube with standard LEGO elements?¬

Yes.

See this thread: http://news.lugnet.com/announce/?n=2122

Play well.

Mark

Before I built my Cube, I searched the net to know if someone has already tried
this. The 'Googlebot' found no matches. I hoped I was the first to come up with
it. You beat me to it. (I haven't found my way on LUGNET till last week !).
There is no "circle" on your cube; in your video you can clearly see when it
gets blocked. I encountered the same problem when I tried to build the cube with
elements of 4x4x4 studs.

Maarten

The blocking you see is a result of some of my edge pieces not having tiles
on them rather than there not being a circular inside. This results in some
pieces being fractionally lower or higher then their neighbour, hence when
rotating there appears to be some blocking or jamming. My corner pieces
enabled me to get round the centre not being circular and retain a look not
dissimilar from the real Rubik cube.

When did you do your search?  My original post to LUGNET was in June, but I
actually started the model about Novermber last year.   I didn't know the
correct spelling I and went with Rubic - which as it turns out is wrong (and
has since been corrected), but I found no hits for either Rubic or Rubik back
then on the web or in LUGNET.  A search before I put my model on the web in June
will have resulted in nothing and if you searched only for Rubik after June then
thats why you probably didn't find anything.  A search on google
with "rubic cube lego" my page comes up second.

I too gave up with the 4x4x4 cube due to the circular problems and because I
simply coudn't get the corner pieces to work.

Now can we build a cube with your circular inside and my coner pieces?

Martin

Yes, I only searched on "Rubik" and not on "Rubic". That explains why I couldnt't find anything. The oldest picture I found of my first attempt (4x4x4 studs for every element) is dated August 11, 2002. I just didn't finish it then because I (...) (21 years ago, 24-Nov-03, to lugnet.build, FTX)
