Pnuematic missles or other sources of missle propulsion —Ben Fleskes
Has anyone had any success building pnumatic powered missles out of lego. Given that the air tubing doesn't provide enough air flow does the following idea sound feasible. Pump air into a hollow air chamber made entirely out of bricks. A 1x1 (...) (26 years ago, 16-Apr-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: Pnuematic missles or other sources of missle propulsion —Mike Poindexter
How about this: 1) Get 2spring loaded shock absorbers 2) Make tubes around the shock absorbers with your projectiles inside the tubes 3) Attach a girder to the shocks with holes on the sides still available 4) Run an axle through the MF and the (...)      (...) Sounds sort of like the mechanism I've used to make launcing torpedoes on a submarine I "LDrew", which was based on the "space cannon" from my website: (URL) 'Space' from the left, the choose the 'Interstellar Battleship'.          Missle launching ideas (was: Pnuematic missles or other sources of missle propulsion —Ben Fleskes
Thanks Bram and Mike for the ideas, I tried these ideas and got reasonable results using the larger shock absorber piece that comes with the black supercar. But still a little lacking for launching a missle made out of two round 1x1 and one round (...) (26 years ago, 19-Apr-99, to lugnet.build)

(...) I can't wait to see it. :-) Building large, heavy models is a pain, eh? Been there, done that. But not as heavy as your minor monstrosity. Good luck. -- Terry K -- (26 years ago, 19-Apr-99, to lugnet.build)

Ben Fleskes (benfleskes@msn.com) asked for suggestions for missile launch mechanisms: My dad and I used to build some rubber band based missile/torpedo launchers. 1) Use a 2x8 plate (a) as base. aaaaaaaa aaaaaaaa 2) Add one 1x4 technic beam (b) and (...)         Re: Pnuematic missles or other sources of missle propulsion —Ben Fleskes
Thanks Jacob for the idea. I now have a new working prototype. It uses a Lego bungee cord instead of a rubber band. It also holds five missles stacked in an angled from the firing chamber. It work something like this: 1) Pull the firing pin back 2) (...) (26 years ago, 30-Apr-99, to lugnet.build)

That sounds pretty neat, Ben. I hope you can share pictures with us when the design is complete (or at least near complete).
