  Re: gender changers?

(...) If no one has said it yet, technic half-beams have sockets that go all the way through them, and are useful for stud entry on both sides. They are slim enough so that the studs from opposing pieces practically touch each other. Another thing (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.build)

(...) well, an ugly solution would be to use 1x1 Plates w/ Horiz. Side Loop. This causes some problems, though, because the cylindrical part between the opposing studs on the loop won't match the smooth face of the bricks you'll be connecting. (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.build)

  60 degree problem

I've got a design problem that I'm having a hard time working around - normally I'd just drop the design, but this one has such great possibilities I'd hate to have to do that. I'm building an articulated 3-claw foot, based off of 1x4/2x2 hinge (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.build)

  Re: gender changers?

The subject is under discussion in lugnet.build, which I would posit as a better group. The 1x1 with side stud is capable of changing direction in just slightly larger than 1x2 brick space. (it technically takes two of them plus a 1x1 plate) (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  1/2 stud offsets.

I got a note offline asking about how I do the inset doors on my box cars. They were clear on how to start an offset using 1x2 tiles with center stud, but unclear on how to tie the door back in at the top. here's what I said in response: There are a (...)   Re: The virtues of the 1x1 with side stud

(...) A technic beam has the little rods on the bottom, just like any other 1x plate or brick. If you turn the side-stud brick sideways, with the side stud facing up, you can attach it to the bottom of the technic beam so that the little rod goes (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: The virtues of the 1x1 with side stud

(...) I have a couple of those too (because I bought all the LEGO of a friend whose brother is two years older than me, so he had older LEGO :), but they're so hard to find in my messy organization scheme, that I rarely use them. --Bram Bram (...) (26 years ago, 11-Jan-99, to lugnet.build)
