Help set a LEGO world record this weekend!

SCLTC and the 2005 Orange County Fair invite our friends in Southern California to help us turn 200,000 red, white, and blue bricks into the world's largest free standing United States Flag this weekend. Construction runs daily from 10:00 to 20:00 (...) (19 years ago, 14-Jul-05, to lugnet.announce, lugnet.trains, lugnet.trains.org.scltc, lugnet.org.us.lugola, FTX) !!

Here's some Day 1 pictures of the world record US flag build attempt at the 2005 OC Fair. With the flag pole reaching high into the sky (or so it seems!), we're ready to start. Here’s some Day 2 pictures of the world record US flag build attempt at the 2005 OC Fair. Stripe #7 is the first to have the blue union (sometimes called the canton) and stars. (...) Wow thats really coming along nicely! (...) Do I get a prize for guessing that strip 9 has 6 at brick 2 and 5 at brick 14??? Hope you didn't get too much sunburn! ROSCO (19 years ago, 17-Jul-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: Help set a LEGO world record this weekend!

(...) That's really cool. I was sort of surprised to see the stars attached rather than embedded in the layers but I guess a lot of early flags (sewn) have stars sewn on... How is the flag going to be supported, it seems like it would put a lot of (...) (19 years ago, 17-Jul-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: Help set a LEGO world record this weekend!

(...) Larry- We initially planned to embed the stars, but a number of reasons converged to make overlaying them the best choice: Since we put a wave in the surface, the union is not flat and embedded stars would have been more complex. We wanted to (...) (19 years ago, 17-Jul-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: Help set a LEGO world record this weekend!

(...) Rosco- You are exactly correct: Stripe 9: 6 at brick 2, 5 at brick 14. The measuring sticks worked out quite well. Hmmm, a prize: How would you like to caclculate and make the measuring sticks for our next flag? Something bigger, of course! (...) (19 years ago, 24-Jul-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)
