Hi all,
It turns out that what I thought was an "ugly hack" had more life in it than I
thought. I've continued working on the minifig animation include file for POVray
that I posted here last week.
I've now added several functions to it, and have further ideas to continue
developing it. I've also renamed it because I think I can get a level of
automatic minifig "acting" similar to that used by Machinima animators.
Machinima are films made using 3D engines from computer games.
I am releasing an alpha working version, which includes 2 levels of
customization. One is based on preset movements:
Walk slowly
Walk
Run
Run fast
These movements are composed of several variables which can be set independently
(second level of customization)
The minifigs now move (unless we tell them no to do it). The "stage" has to be
set up so that the minifig starting point is at coordinates 0,0,0 - there is a
tutorial available in the include file itself.

These are a couple of movies made with the include file (plus custom camera
settings and further post-processing in Virtualdub and Zwei-Stein).

BTW, the reason this is an alpha release is because my goal is to have a beta
which will allow both some degree of "acting" (i.e. individual limb movement)
and the possibility to work with more than one minifig at the time.
Comments are very welcome
