I understand that some postings on lugnet.robotics arrive via the
lego-robotics@crynwr.com service and I think that is a valuable connection
which should be retained despite the slim possibility that it may result in
a breach of the terms and conditions imposed on direct posters to lugnet groups.
However, I think the post (421) below is relevant and the increased focus it
brings on the do's and don'ts of "commercial" posts. I would recommend that
it be instated and followed. I assume that the group moderators would be
responsible for sending polite "reminders" to offending posters stating that
the rules can be found in the terms and conditions area of the lugnet site.
My interpretation of a commercial post is one in which the poster has some
direct or indirect interest in promoting the subject product or service
described in the post.
I have personally "judged" my own posts in one rather specific area to be
non-commercial as follows;
When we develop new products, we typically set aside half a dozen or so
preproduction samples to be sent out, entirely free of charge, and with no
mention of the company name associated with the offer. I believe this does
not contravene either my own feelings about what the groups are for or what
the current or proposed terms of use may say. I am open to criticism on this
point and would obviously cease this practice if it was deemed to be too
commercial.
Our purpose in doing this is to get feedback on the durability of the
product idea and the suitability for its intended use. The beneficiaries in
this case are other lugnet users who see the posts and are happy to try the
things out.
I think the issue of commercial use of lugnet is, however, very important. I
would like to see the terms of use clearly spelled out and enforced.

Further while I think some tolerance is appropriate for non LUGNET(tm) users, (and I veer way out into the hypothetical here) someone who is a LUGNET user but posts commercial stuff that way as a loophole exploitation should be called (...)
