I should start by saying I've never used NNTP, or even seen it in action
However I fail to see whats wrong with the web client, its by far the best
method of organising online forums that I have seen on the web,

The thing that's wrong with the web client from my POV is that it's a web
client. I have to point... click...point... click... or tab tab tab tab all
over the place to get anything done. With my newsreader everything is a
single keyboard shortcut away. For someone like me with RSI, believe me a
newsreader is far less painful - literally. I am truly deeply grateful that
we have the NNTP option on LUGNET, unlike nearly every other web forum.

Do I detect a common theme here?  We've got an "I fail to see what's
wrong" and Larry's "I'm not sure I see how it would help".  I have to
say, there appears to be a certain metaphorical lack of vision on the
part of the naysayers.  Meanwhile on the other side, you've got RSI
and the visually impaired.  Perhaps Larry was right when he mentioned
the ADA.  This is just the sort of thing that gets them all excited.

Can't we just acknowledge this is a part of lugnet that could be
improved and look for a solution?

Don

PS.  Kevin, I'm curious if you've tried using ldglite for ldraw CAD.
It's not nearly as powerful as mlcad, but the editing mode is all
keyboard.  It'd be nice to get some feedback from someone besides
myself with RSI problems.

OK, the RSI and related issues are not things I'd thought of, for which I
apologise. I should have known better with my training as a product designer. In
the UK there actually is legislation (1) about website design for access by
people with restrict mobility and senses but no-one seems to follow and or
enforce it.

As to 'no to progress thing', I feel I might have not made myself clear.I DO
feel that Lugnet can be improved in many ways. What I was saying is that the web
interface as it stands is 'best of breed' which was why I was challenging the
word "clunky". I misconstrued this as saying the web interface is bad when in
fact what was meant was that web interfaces per se are bad (for the subject at
hand)

On the subject of legislation there in now an EU directive(2) in force that
requires a notification and clarification of the use of cookies on any site that
uses them. As ever with the web I don't know how this translates for non-EU
based sites, I supect no-one knows and it wouldn't be enforcable.
