On the one hand, if the policy is a newsgroup for each theme,

FYI, there is no such policy.

Planning of  the compartmentalized-dork kind is more of an art than a
science. Many factors are taken into consideration. After that, there's a
"gut feeling"  yea or nay. Then there's some continued observation.

(and this is presumably why  there is a Galidor group).

Do you feel that group is not needed? (curious)

I figure the new line may draw a slightly "different crowd" here, who'll be
new, and unsure where to post.  Plus, IMHO, the Galidor product  is outside
the realm of "normal LEGO."

maybe there should be one for Legends

I don't see a need for it. But I will keep an eye on the possibility.

On the other hand, I'd agree with Jude.  Legends aren't
really a distinct theme, but just a marketing category for the release of
sets from other themes.

I agree. I hope people post about Legends in whatever group fits the
context. Like, if you have some Legend 'issue' to discuss with LEGO Direct,
or something to say about the line itself, post there. If you have fantasies
to relate or anger to vent (or whatever), use Dear-LEGO. If you want to
discuss a particular model or theme, use its group. And if you're just
generally chatting, I think it's fine to use General. When in doubt, use
General.
