I'm not sure if this is against the spirit of LUGNET or not. My suggestion
is to allow LUGNET administrators and group curators to relocate whole
message threads to appropriate groups, in the case that the poster
mistakenly posted to the wrong group.

For instance, take this very popular thread:
http://news.lugnet.com/market/shopping/?n=9343

Call me crazy, but it looks like this thread deals with the mechanics of
BrickLink and should go in market/brickshops. So in this case, if Kevin Salm
as group curator sees fit, and if the post originator Greg Perry agrees,
Kevin would have the ability to move the entire thread over. The
implementation might require canceling the original messages and reposting
the new ones, but ideally this could be done transparently to the web
interface (although it very well might cause duplicate e-mails for
subscribers by mail, and duplicate postings for NNTP readers.)

The benefit to all of this message-managing would be to eliminate 'please
post here' posts, encourage by example, and improve the consistency of the
news archives for future LUGNET readers. Again, this would only happen if
the curator or administrator and original poster agree that it should.

Cary

(...) It's an interesting thing, but very tricky do to without breaking news clients. The IBM internal discussion groups did have such a mechanism (they used custom software not NNTP), and even there, with a well controlled client, there were still (...)
