But, can we do something about these responses in flame wars being
spotlighted and making it to the top stories area?  It currently only takes a
handful of people to spotlight a post when they think someone has said
something clever in these tedious debates that are always going on.  The
current debate regarding the open letter to the CEO was enough to make it to
the top stories-- anyone who clicked on it could follow the various responses
of agreement or disagreement. I dislike the current way in which the "woo
wee, he really gave it to him!" responses so easily climb up the top stories.

Just more coding suggestions:

I think that in the "someday" category when/if personal skip-filters are
employed to the spotlight, perhaps there could be an opt-in setting that
prevents replies from making it to the spotlight list.

In response to the "wow, what a great zinger!" comment, I think I might like to
see a few options:
Instead of just "nothing/highlight/spotlight", how about some other fields:
- I agree/nothing/I disagree
- post type (funny/informative/something cool/etc)

In the color debates, I've often hesitated from highlighting/spotlighting a post
because my gut says "I really, really agree with this message", but at the same
time, I don't necessarily want to say "everyone should read this post". That
plays especially into off-topic.debate, where I find I'm lacking a way of
supporting a post without either 1) posting a reply or 2) spotlighting it and
(in theory) recommending that everyone read it.

Please let me know if this is old news that doesn't need to come up anymore. But, can we do something about these (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)
