First of all, thanks for putting in a quick fix.  This should defenitly work,
now we just need to figure out a way to make it easier :)

In lugnet.admin.nntp, Horst Lehner writes:

really is from me, not someone who pretends to be me. After all, being on a
pay-by-the-minute internet connection, I post through the news server,
because I want to avoid the web interface ...

I'm of course for this option...  it's the only way I can think of to allow
postings through NNTP without requireing a web client, since I believe it was
mentioned the auth NNTP will not allow casual readers to connect to the
server...

Now to allow SMTP posting without a web client, how about having an option to
reply to the auth message sent by the server...  the way many list servers
act:  In the subject of the mail, put in a code, and have the reply-to address
to something like auth@lugnet.com...   Then, when I get the message, I can just
reply to it, type in nothing at all, and just hit send.  The server will see
that it got a message from me with the right code, and authunticates my post.

:)

Once again, thanks for putting this up!

Dan

Hello Todd, hello everybody, I can understand your rationale behind authentication, but find it annoying to frequently have to use a web interface for authentication. Therefore, this posting concentrates on implementation details, which could (...) (23 years ago, 18-Jun-01, to lugnet.admin.nntp)
