Hello Todd, hello everybody,

I can understand your rationale behind authentication, but find it annoying
to frequently have to use a web interface for authentication. Therefore,
this posting concentrates on implementation details, which could minimize
this burden. A lot of German AFOLs are not on LUGNET for exactly such
implementation details, which I would call slight inconveniences, but they
find more cumbersome than I do. I would like to see more Germans rather than
less on LUGNET, and therefore these topics still have some importance for me
as well.

The simplest way around this is for the server to accept a message, then send
a quick confirmation e-mail to the poster listed in the From: header.  This
e-mail contains a special URL which will authenticate or "release" the message
into the pool of active messages.  Click that URL, then click "Post It" and
you're all set.

Will it be possible to confirm more than one message at once, with just a
single URL? I think there could be a list of pending posts, with a checkbox
near each of them. The paranoid default could be that none of them is
checked. When I click "Post It", all checked ones would be posted. All
unchecked postings would be discarded, or dealt with in any other
appropriate way.

Also, PGP encryption could potentially be used to offer a totally web-free
solution. The news server could have my public key, to verify the posting
really is from me, not someone who pretends to be me. After all, being on a
pay-by-the-minute internet connection, I post through the news server,
because I want to avoid the web interface ...

Please let me know what you think of these convenience ideas ...

Greetings

Horst

First of all, thanks for putting in a quick fix. This should defenitly work, now we just need to figure out a way to make it easier :) In lugnet.admin.nntp, Horst Lehner writes: \>Also, PGP encryption could potentially be used to offer a totally (...) (23 years ago, 18-Jun-01, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

(...) A followup thought to this - provide a "confirm my posts" link to the web interface when you are logged on. This would allow use of NNTP to post (I much prefer it due to a variety of interface issues, including size of the area to type the (...) (23 years ago, 18-Jun-01, to lugnet.admin.nntp)
