(...) well, since the error was a non-fatal one (if I recall correctly) the message will not bounce right away, but will try to resend for a while... If sendmail was refusing connections for, say, 4 hours, some messages might be delayed up to 8 (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Is something updating the aliases.db file before sendmail starts up, like /usr/lib/sendmail -bi or makemap? Is it possible that one of these is older and using a different format than your regular sendmail daemon? I was recently bitten by an (...) (25 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

The system crashed again. Either it's running out of memory and that's causing a downward spiral or it's running out of CPU cycles and starving enough processes to build up and cause a meltdown. I think this can happen when a post sits in the sender's outbox (perhaps because they are offline) for a while before it is posted - I am pretty sure it is listed by sent date, but the age is based on when it reaches LUGNET. Does that make (...) (25 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
