Re: Error in Hash Database again?

(...) well, since the error was a non-fatal one (if I recall correctly) the message will not bounce right away, but will try to resend for a while... If sendmail was refusing connections for, say, 4 hours, some messages might be delayed up to 8 (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Error in Hash Database again?

(...) Indeed it does, and perhaps that is what it was. But I could swear I saw the very post that was mixed in there long long ago (on the 10th) and then it reappeared out of order. But it could have been a dup that got stuck somewhere and just now (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Error in Hash Database again?

(...) Is something updating the aliases.db file before sendmail starts up, like /usr/lib/sendmail -bi or makemap? Is it possible that one of these is older and using a different format than your regular sendmail daemon? I was recently bitten by an (...) (25 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  News search function temporarily disabled

The system crashed again. Either it's running out of memory and that's causing a downward spiral or it's running out of CPU cycles and starving enough processes to build up and cause a meltdown. Either way some tuning needs to be done. This is going (...) (25 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.announce) !

Re: Error in Hash Database again?

(...) I think this can happen when a post sits in the sender's outbox (perhaps because they are offline) for a while before it is posted - I am pretty sure it is listed by sent date, but the age is based on when it reaches LUGNET. Does that make (...) (25 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Error in Hash Database again?

(...) Thanks. There's something wrong with the incoming sendmail daemon. This happened once before. When it's fixed, your mail will probably appear as a post. --Todd (25 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Error in Hash Database again?

Todd, FYI: I started getting errors while posting using e-mail again, starting Thursday, 12/7. I received another one today, so I thought you'd like to know.   Re: Brickwise Report

(...) Another idea: How about putting the date/time it was last updated into the report. It doesn't look like it's updated that often, and it would be nice to see how old it is before wasting my time clicking on prices which are no longer (...) (25 years ago, 8-Dec-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  New-by-Mail suggestion

Todd: I finally got around to signing up for a little news-by-mail... Then it occurred to me. What I'd REALLY like is: 1) to be notified every time someone replies to a posting I've made, and not eveything that goes into a group. and 2) To be (...)   Another Outage?

Did we apparently have another outage just now? No response from the server for a block of time, and when it responded, the newest post was 58 min old...
